It’s Easter time, peeps! Do you know how to cook a perfect hard-boiled egg?
I honestly didn’t know how to do it the right away up until a couple of months ago (sad, but true). I always just threw some eggs in a pot, let them boil for like 5 minutes and shook them next to my ear like I was going to hear whether or not they were done (seriously, I did that). The eggs would always have a green tint around the yolk which I thought was weird, but they tasted fine so I was cool with it. Then one day I figured I’d look it up. There is actually a proper way to boil an egg.
Get some eggs. As many as you want and just enough for one layer in your pot. Sprinkle some salt in the water so the shells peel off easily.
Bring the water just to a boil. Once you see big bubbles pull the pot off the heat and put a lid on top.
Set a timer for 12 minutes and let the eggs sit in the pot. When the timer goes off use a slotted spoon and scoop them out into a bowl.
Wait until they cool off, dry them and store in the fridge. You can peel ‘em before you put ‘em in the fridge for quick snacks later or wait until you’re ready and peel then.
If you are eating Paleo and/or want to eat the healthiest egg for you and your family, find pastured eggs at a Whole Foods or a local farm/farmer’s market. They are a perfect high protein, whole food, healthy snack. Sprinkle a little sea salt on one and wham! Appetite satisfied.
